BBC Bristol works with community stations
BBC Radio Bristol is joining forces with community radio stations BCFM and Ujima Radio for live coverage of a local carnival.
A live show will be presented jointly by BBC Radio Bristol’s Laura Rawlings, BCFM’s Pat Hart and DJ Style from Ujima Radio and simultaneously broadcast on all three radio stations from St Pauls Carnival.
Pat Hart from BCFM: “It’s so pleasing that our different organisations can work in partnership for the benefit of our listeners and the wider community.”
The show will feature interviews from the people behind–the-scenes who make it happen, and from among the many thousands who attend. This year there will also be some special reports from the BCFM team in Rio in Brazil, comparing the tradition of carnival there with its equivalent in Bristol.
Ujima Radio’s DJ Style added: “Ujima feels proud to continue to promote that tradition and working alongside BCfm and BBC Radio Bristol.”
The BBC in Bristol and BBC Outreach will support the Carnival again this year by providing the big screens in Portland Square.
Editor of BBC Radio Bristol, Tim Pemberton said: “St Pauls Carnival is a much-loved day in the Bristol calendar. It celebrates our African and Caribbean heritage with passion and pride. The theme of Carnival this year is “Home” and by joining with our community stations BCFM and Ujima Radio, we are providing a flavour of Carnival to those who are listening at home, or out and about elsewhere.”
St Pauls Carnival on BBC Radio Bristol 94.9FM, 104.6FM, BCFM on 93.2FM and Ujima Radio on 98FM from 12.00noon-2.00pm, Saturday 5 July.
