Metro hires two comedians for Nightowls

Metro Radio and TFM’s NightOwls show is to be hosted by comedy duo Jason Cook and Steffen Peddie, as they cover Alan Robson for two weeks.

Steffen Peddie and Jason Cook are known for their roles in the BBC2 sitcom, Hebburn, but will be on-air 10pm til 2am Tuesday 1st July, until Sunday 13th July.

Alan Robson, who has hosted the show for over 35 years, recently appeared on Steffen Peddie’s ‘Chat Show Thing’ at The Stand Comedy Club in Newcastle and struck up a rapport with the comedy duo. During their chat with Alan they expressed how much they love NightOwls and their desire to feature on the show.

Jason explained how it all came about: “Some of the Metro Radio guys were at the chat show when Alan came along, and then a call just came out of the blue asking us to do it.It’s very exciting. It’s like Bruce Springsteen handing you a guitar and saying ‘you sing a couple of songs, kid.

“Some of my earliest memories are of listening to the show, and me and Steff really are huge fans, so it’s a big honour, but also a big responsibility, to fill in for the Flashing Blade, but we’ve got some stuff planned.

“Pretty much every comedian I know says they’re going to ring in and pretend to be someone else, so that’ll be fun. We’re going to get Victoria Elliott and Neil Grainger from Hebburn to come on, as well as some other celebrities, and we’re trying to organise an amazing prize to give away.”

Steffen, Big Keith in Hebburn’s two series, added: “It’s great. I finally get to use the words ‘long-time listener, first-time presenter’. Like Jason, I’ve been a big fan of the show since I was about 12, and to be asked to do it is out of this world.

Bauer North East Regional Content Director, Chris Pegg, said: “This is a great coup for us. The guys have shown us on the Hebburn show how talented they are, and to have them step into Alan’s shoes is an exciting prospect. No doubt there will be many comedy moments throughout the fortnight they are with us.”
