The winner of the EsseX Factor announced
Radio Essex has a new breakfast show travel presenter after a search took place on-air.
And now 35 year old Abbie Norbury, a Yoga Teacher and Nutritionist from Benfleet, will join Daryl Denham for breakfast each day on Radio Essex and Southend and Chelmsford Radio.
In March, Radio Essex launched a new competition to celebrate Daryl Denham’s arrival to the station in the aim to recruit a traffic and travel presenter. The station asked participants to send in a 60 second clip showcasing their personality and five finalists were chosen to each spend a morning with Daryl in the studio. After much deliberation by the panel Abbie Norbury was chosen.
Winner Abbie Norbury said: “I am absolutely delighted to have won the competition. I entered the competition on a complete whim. I was in my car listening to the radio at a moment in time when I really shouldn’t have been! I was running late for work and was quite stressed about it, but heard the advert for the competition on the radio which really resonated with me so I decided to go for it. I found out two days later that I’d got into the finals but by the time I returned the producers call there was only one day left available – which just happened to be the only day I wasn’t working, and the only day I could have actually done it!! This also happened to be my partner’s birthday!
Group Managing Director, Adventure Radio, Mark Jeeves said: “It is great to be able to offer the public this opportunity of a life time and Abbie fits with the station, perfectly. I can’t wait to start hearing the new duo on air.”
Abbie added: “Winning the competition is allowing me to have a go at something I’ve always wanted to do.”
Abbie also runs two companies called Norbury Nutrition and NorburYoga which she hopes to carry on alongside her radio job.
