Bauer puts Magic on D1, puts Absolute in mono

Absolute Radio, one of the few remaining stereo radio stations on the national Digital One platform, has gone mono today as Magic launches nationwide.

The only remaining stations to broadcast in stereo on the commercial DAB multiplex are Classic FM and Capital XTRA.

The original promise of DAB offering better quality stations and more of them seems to have gone out the window in recent years as multiplex owners prioritise the amount of services over quality of the existing ones.

Absolute Radio, along with Absolute 80s and the new national Magic feed, is now at 80kbps mono.

The launch of Magic nationally today also sees Christine Bleakley, John Barrowman and Claire Sweeney join the station for weekly programmes.

Also today, all Magic AM stations in the North of England have rebranded to the ‘City Network 2’ branding – read more about this here.
