Lincs FM plans country music radio station
A new country music bias radio station, with Suffolk news, sport, entertainment, weather, traffic in the mornings, is being planned by Lincs FM Group.
‘Suffolk First’ is part of the proposal by MuxCo Suffolk to launch a DAB digital radio multiplex in the area, along with a pop and rock station by Town and Country Broadcasting called Anglia.
The mux is joint owned by MuxCo, Lincs FM and Town and Country Broadcasting and hopes to use three transmitter sites; Mendlesham, Warren Heath and Puttocks Hill.
MuxCo Suffolk is the only applicant for the licence, and also plans to include Heart and Smooth on the line-up, but inclusion of these services is not confirmed.
Anglia and Suffolk First would launch at some point ‘during the licence term’. MuxCo Suffolk says it hasn’t sought any local support for its proposal. “We believe that support for analogue services to simulcast is best demonstrated through their RAJAR audience numbers, and that support for new services will be demonstrated as we build up to their launch and in their initial operational period”.
Anglia will be “A rock oriented music station with a mix of current and classic hits”. It will, at least initially, will provide no local news or other services.
Meanwhile, Suffolk First wants to provide a “locally focussed service of news, sport, entertainment, weather and traffic and travel information – within a hits and memories music service with a country music bias”. Local news and information will be provided on weekday mornings only.
BBC Radio Suffolk will also be going digital as part of the plans.
Ofcom invites comments on MuxCo Suffolk’s application from listeners and the industry by 20 July 2015.
