BBC Radio 5 Live pops up DAB station for the day

Three major sporting events in one day means the BBC is providing an extra sports service on DAB and online.

5 Live is offering full live Formula 1 commentary of the British Grand Prix on DAB as a pop-up station for today (Sunday) only.

It is identifying as BBC R5LFormula 1, and the station is encouraging listeners to retune their radio sets to pick it up.

This is because Test Match Special is on BBC Radio 5 Live for full ball by ball commentary of New Zealand v England in the Cricket World Cup final.

Coverage started at 7am with Eleanor Oldroyd at Lord’s, followed by a special edition of Tailenders from 9am, with Test Match Special on air from 9.50am. After the match Phil Tufnell joins Eleanor Oldroyd are taking calls in a special 6-Duck-6.

Cricket is also being broadcast on BBC Radio 4 LW.

And over on the often used BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra, there’s live Wimbledon commentary of the men’s singles final with coverage starting at 1pm.

In addition, coverage of the Tour de France continues via the BBC Sport website.
