CityTalk's controversial start

Emap's new all speech station for Liverpool is set to cause a stir – even before the microphone goes live. Posters for the launch campaign includes controversial statements from the main presenters, including Pete Price claiming "Racism is alive and well in Liverpool".

The six figure campaign also shows former BBC host Simon O'Brien quoting the very words which lead to his dismissal from Radio Merseyside – "**** the government and **** the planners."
The line up for the station, which launches on January 28th, includes Trisha Goddard, Michael Brandon, Simon O’Brien, Dean Sullivan, Margi Clarke, Ian St. John, Ian Snodin, John Aldridge, Phil Easton, Kim Hughes and Pete Price.
Richard Maddock, City Talk 105.9 station director, said: “The statements provide insight into each presenter’s opinion, style of show and most importantly engages them with the audience. The campaign is deliberately opinionated and willing to push the boundaries. It has character and really puts the presenters out there in the public domain.
“The statements are specifically strong and aim to be thought provoking and to evoke reaction. We are bracing ourselves for some very heated and lively debates.”
Liz Larner said: “The strap line — The Voice of Liverpool – is representative of an all-speech, local station. Through below-the-line and on-air activity the station will provide a voice for all, allowing people to have their opinion, irrelevant of being right or wrong.”
The images were created by Liverpool-based agency Ampersand in conjunction with the City Talk marketing team led by Emap’s North West Regional Marketing Director Liz Larner. They will run across a variety of media including: print, 48 sheets, mega rears, bus wraps and taxis. There will also be local press ads revealing the station’s exciting schedule.
