Emma Britton is taking over breakfast on BBC Somerset, making her the first female appointment since the BBC Director General called for more women at breakfast.
Emma moves from mid-mornings and replaces Matt Faulkner who’s moving to drivetime from September 9th.
The Bridgwater born presenter joined BBC Somerset in 2003 as a programme contributor, working from 2007 as a broadcast assistant/producer before becoming the mid-morning presenter in January 2009.
BBC Somerset Managing Editor Tamsin Curnow told RadioToday: “Emma is one of our most experienced and popular presenters, with a passion for Somerset that makes every show she presents a must-listen. I’m delighted she will be taking over the Breakfast Show on BBC Somerset and am sure that our listeners and everyone who cares about life in the county will warmly welcome her in her new role.”
Emma Britton said: “I’m really excited to be given the opportunity to present the Breakfast Show in the county that I grew up in, live in and love. I can’t wait to be the person that makes sure that listeners start their day with everything they need to know, but also hopefully sends them on their way with a smile on their face.”
Also from 9th September, Ben McGrail will be presenting the mid-morning programme from 9am until noon. He said: “The new show will give me a chance to speak to and meet so many of our listeners – and they each have a different story to tell. I love living in Somerset, so it’ll be fantastic to get out and about on the BBC Somerset Bus and see as much of the county as possible. I’m delighted and honoured, and can’t wait to start.”
Current breakfast host Matt Faulkner, who’ll take over drive from 4pm until 7pm said: “I have loved doing the Breakfast show for the past three years and I am looking forward to entertaining and informing BBC Somerset listeners as they catch up on the events of the day.”
