Gaydio 87.7 set to cover Pride

The latest temporary RSL station in Manchester has launched this morning aimed at the local Gay, Lesbian, Bi-Sexual and Transgender community. Gaydio 87.7 kicked-off at 7am broadcasting from a temporary studio in the LGF (Lesbian and Gay Foundation) building, just off Canal Street in the city centre.

The first song to play was Music by Madonna, as chosen for by visitors to the station webste.

Location for this type of station is important. “By broadcasting from the village it not only means that our programming can feature elements of the parade and festival, but we’ll be close to the action and all the latest news and gossip” says programme controller Toby Whitehouse. Gaydio will also be broadcasting information about the vital services provided to the community by the LGF and holding interviews with many of the teams and organisations that operate from there.

Station bosses recently sent this message to listeners: “A big thank-you to all of you that attending our launch party. It was such a great evening and so fantastic to have so many people there. Rowetta also went down very well and we love her new dance song that she kindly performed for us. Photos of the event will be on realmanchester.com over the next few days so please keep your eyes out for them.”

The station is covering Manchester Pride, and has the support of BBC Radio Manchester.
