Silk 106.9 gets three times power increase

Ofcom has given Cheshire’s Silk 106.9 permission to turn up the power of its transmitter – one of just three granted in the last five years.

The near tripling of broadcast power has doubled the station’s highest quality coverage from around 1/4 of a million adults to over 1/2 million adults in East Cheshire and South Manchester.

The station now covers a total of 1.4 million adults with a power of 200w horizontal and 200w vertical. Previously the transmitter was on 50w horizontal and 75w vertical.

Silk 106.9 Head Of Programming, Phil Rodgers, told RadioToday.co.uk: “The power increase has been a long time coming, and we can’t wait to serve ALL of our listeners ALL of the time, across an area that we love and know so well. We are truly the local radio station from Cheshire, for Cheshire.”
