Valleys Radio stays put

Media regulator Ofcom has declined UTV’s request to co-locate the Heads of South Wales Valleys station (Valleys Radio) in the Neath/Port Talbot area alongside the proposed site of its sister stations, Swansea Sound and the Wave.

The request was accompanied by twenty-four letters of support, some from local organisations, others from politicians including Rhodri Morgan on behalf of the Welsh Assembly. All voiced the opinion that the future of the station would be better assured if co-located.
However, Ofcom felt there was nothing present in the consultation that provided the kind of exceptional circumstances needed to override their original guidelines.
