PURE Digital’s 500,000th Radio

PURE Digital ? the world leader in DAB digital radio ? announces that it has reached the half-million unit milestone in its sales of digital radios.

The PURE brand, established in 2002, has rapidly become the leading provider of DAB digital radios with a reputation for innovation and quality in the digital radio market.

Over half a million PURE Digital DAB radios had been shipped as of 17th March 2005. The 500,000th radio ? one of PURE?s new models, the SONUS-1XT ? was delivered to the John Lewis Partnership this week. John Lewis continues to be one of the leading retailers for the PURE DAB radio range and according to research from the DRDB, its Oxford street branch is the best selling single retail outlet for DAB in the world.

This news comes at the end of a very busy year for PURE Digital. 2004 saw the launch of EVOKE-1XT, a new version of PURE?s bestselling radio; The Bug, which features pause, rewind and record of live radio and a design from Wayne Hemingway; ?lan, an affordable contemporary stereo radio; and Legato, PURE?s first micro system, which combines DAB digital radio with FM, audio C-D and MP3 C-D playback.

2005 already promises to be another busy year for PURE with the launch this month of SONUS-1XT, a talking alarm-radio, and the upcoming launch of the PURE PocketDAB 2000, the world?s most advanced handheld DAB radio.

Says Kevin Dale, general manager, PURE Digital: ?PURE has been consistently first in the DAB market ? we were the first to offer consumers a sub ?100 DAB radio, the first to enable pause, rewind and record of live DAB radio and the first to provide Electronic Programme Guide functionality to our users. We?ve been rewarded by being first in sales ? with EVOKE-1 and now EVOKE-1XT taking the best seller spot for the last two years ? and by being the first manufacturer to sell over half a million DAB digital radios. We?d like to take this opportunity to thank the thousands of retail stores that stock PURE radios and, of course, the hundreds of thousands of PURE radio owners.?

Ian Dickens, chief executive, DRDB (Digital Radio Development Bureau) says: ?This is a milestone for DAB digital radio and we congratulate both PURE Digital and the John Lewis Partnership for their continued support of DAB. PURE and its parent company, Imagination Technologies pioneered DAB in the UK and have consistently produced innovative, high quality products creating a new and trusted consumer electronics brand in a short period. The John Lewis Partnership was one of the first major retailers to recognize the potential of DAB digital radio and has continued to support the technology in its stores around the country.?

Annika Nyberg, president, WorldDAB says: ?DAB digital radio has established itself as a key part of consumer electronics retail in the UK with over 1.3 million units already sold, and with the efforts of brands such as PURE, that success is set to be repeated in other worldwide territories.?
