Merseyside’s 106.7 The Rocket has launched

The northwest’s newest radio station has just launched on Merseyside. At 8am this morning, Dan and Niki launched the first edition of the local ‘Big Fun Breakfast’ getting the station underway.

The station launched after a 3 minute countdown sequence featuring songs such as Elton John’s Rocket Man and the new station voice-overs talking about local place names and new programmes/presenters. The first song played was Robbie Williams – Let me entertain you.

Programmes on the station will follow the format of other stations owned by The Local Radio Company. Former KCR Presenters Terry Lennaine and Brian Cullen continue a daytime show, with Terry on 10 till 3 and Brian 3 till 7. Evening network programmes start at 7pm with Simon James and Hill followed by the network phone in ‘North South Divided’ from 10pm till 1am. The locally produced Night Freaks will broadcast from 1am till 6am. Friday Nights include Fire on Friday with Paul Gerrard.

Weekend programmes include Joe Nelson on Saturday breakfast, Dan and Niki around lunch and Aiden Bracken in the afternoon. Sundays start with former evening show presenter Steve James, followed by Terry Lennaine. Rocket Country with Phil Roberts is on from 6pm till 8pm Sunday evening.

The Rocket’s new website is now online at 1067therocket.com. You can download the entire launch audio from here (Registration Required)

The launch follows almost 10 days of so-called ‘test transmissions’ after the closure of KCR 106.7 on Friday 8th April.
