Virgin Radio is giving listeners exclusive access to its guests with a free podcast presented by Sony Award-nominated DJ Ben Jones.
The new podcast from the station includes out-takes from interviews that guests never wanted to be heard outside the studio. Ben Jones will select clips from the best interviews of the week plus one gem from the Virgin Radio archives.
Ben Jones kicks off the first ‘Best of the Guests’ podcast with Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl talking about his fear of boats and planes and his love of waking up to Motorhead, and Richard Ashcroft doing an interview while hurtling down the Autobahn while late for a gig. The ‘gem’ from the archives is a never-heard-before out-take from Coldplay talking off-air before the launch of X&Y about what they really think of the press.
“The legendary Virgin Radio archives have some really amazing insights into the lives of the great and the good from the rock and pop scene,” said Ben Jones. “This podcast gives me the chance to dig out some of the best footage never meant to be aired. It’s this kind of exclusive material that podcasts are made for, and I’m thrilled to be bringing our millions of listeners even closer to the music they love.”
The first podcast will be available to download for free at www.virginradio.co.uk from tomorrow (Thursday April 6th).
Virgin Radio has led the radio industry with a long list of platform and digital firsts. The nation’s rock and pop station was the first in Europe to broadcast over the internet and the first to be carried by Sky. It launched the first comprehensive Online Music Chart which was the only chart in the UK to measure both downloads and streams of music. Virgin Radio was also the first to fully support DAB Digital Radio and will be the first station to broadcast interactive material via mobile phones with Nokia’s Visual Radio. The station is the first in the world available via any 3G handset.
