Viking FM to host Radio Idol

96.9 Viking FM is looking for a co-presenter for the Breakfast Show whilst Sam Heywood is on maternity leave.

Radio Idol is launched this weekend and will see the radio station searching the region for the next big thing! Open auditions will be held across East Yorkshire & North East Lincolnshire and anyone who impresses the judges will receive a ?golden ticket? to the next round.

Those chosen will be randomly selected and could end up potentially broadcasting to 1.1million people. Mark Somers said ?We really want to see fun people, people who are up for having a laugh. We just want you to turn up and tell us about you!?

Sam Heywood is more than eight months pregnant with her first child and will return to the Breakfast Show after her maternity leave. She said, ?Whatever your age, whoever you are, you?re invited to just turn up and be yourself ? you could find yourself co-presenting the Breakfast Show whilst I?m away!?

A panel of judges will decide who should reach the next round at the auditions which will be held in Hull, Bridlington, Grimsby & Scunthorpe over the next two weekends. As well as being crowned ?Radio Idol?, the winner will also win a holiday and their own weekend show on Viking FM.

Viking FM has been a breeding ground for new talent with former presenters JK & Joel, Harriet Scott and Jon Culshaw becoming household names. Managing Director Mike Bawden said ?Radio Idol is a fun competition that we?re running whilst Sam Heywood?s on maternity leave. As a local station, we really believe in finding and nurturing new local talent for the future?.

Although there won?t be a panellist to rival Simon Cowell?s snipes at the auditions, contestants are being warned that ?the boss is always listening?. At the end of each Breakfast Show, the boss will call the Viking FM Studio and decide if the contestant should go on to present another day or be replaced with a new contestant. A final vote will decide who is crowned Viking FM?s Radio Idol.

Mark Somers said, ?If I was having a baby I?d be back at work in a day but Sam is lazy so has to take more time off apparently. However, it?ll be great to get a load of local people on the show, and people who don?t need me to hold the door open for them!?
