After years of talks, the BBC will move to a new Media City in Salford Quays will go ahead, after the Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell announced a licence fee settlement today. The move north should be complete by 2011 which includes moving BBC Radio Five Live.

The licence fee is expected to rise by three per cent over each of the next two years which is lower than the BBC wanted.

Media City at Salford Quays will attract not only the BBC, but independent producers and possibly even Granada. The Quays are already home to four analogue radio stations, Capital Gold, Xfm, Century FM and Smooth FM.
