New Original role for Evington

Original 106fm's Programme Director John Evington's been made the Solent radio station's Managing Director. With almost 30 years in the industry, John has been with Original for the last 12 months and assembled the on-air team ahead of its launch last year. He takes up the role of MD in addition to his PD duties straight away.

John will also continue to have a consultative role in the next two Original stations, being launched by owners CanWest in Bristol and Aberdeen.

Original’s Chairman, Malcolm le Bas, told RadioToday.co.uk: "Original 106fm has achieved strong public and advertiser support since its launch. The Original format is new to the UK and it was brought to life by John in his work to establish our new station. John brings his years of radio success in programming and senior management leadership to build on the growth and success of Original 106fm since launch."

CanWest MediaWorks UK's MD, Rick Hetherington, added, "It is a real pleasure to see John take on even more responsibility within the organisation as we role out the Original brand throughout the country. It is our aim to make Original a nationally recognised brand and our first step was to launch Original 106 in the south of England. More stations will follow in other regions over the next months and John will have a consultative role in these new operations as part of the CanWest senior management team."
