It was an online battle between BBC Radio 1 and Virgin Radio in the radio category of the Webby Awards, but the BBC managed to gain the top spot. CBC Radio 3 in Canada, icatfm in Spain and NPR made up the rest of the nominations. The BBC won three awards in total.
BBC News won the top award in the both online news categories, whilst Guardian won the best newspaper website for the third consecutive year, beating top titles such as the New York Times and Wall Street Journal.
The Webby Awards are now in their 11th year, and receive over 8,000 entries across nearly 70 categories.
