RadioCentre gets political

For the first time, commercial radio's industry body RadioCentre will be operating a special broadcast stand at the three forthcoming party political conferences, giving MPs the opportunity to be interviewed by their local independent station from the heart of the conferences.

Over 50 MPs have so far pre-booked themselves for interviews on the stand with their local stations, including Foreign Secretary David Milliband who will be interviewed by Century FM and Boris Johnson who will be interviewed on Oxford 107.9.

Resident journalists will also be manning the stand which will enable MPs who have been unable to pre-book to turn up at any time during the conferences — a copy of their recorded interview will then be sent to their local station to be used on air.

Said Andrew Harrison, chief executive of RadioCentre, “Following the summer recess, this is a great opportunity for MPs to get on air and engage with their constituents whilst they are away during the conference season. We want to give Commercial Radio listeners the chance to hear from their MPs as the conference debates develop about issues that affect them at a local level.”
