New chart show for BBC 1Xtra

The Official Charts Company has been commissioned to compile a new bespoke chart for 1Xtra. The 1Xtra Chart Show with Ronnie Herel will count down the top 40 biggest selling black music tracks from independent and specialist retailers and digital sales.

The new show will air every Saturday, from 1pm — 4pm, and only tracks released within a three month time frame will be eligible, keeping the chart current. It will incorporate all music of black origin, including genres such as rap, hip hop, RnB, D&B, garage and dancehall. British home-grown talent and international artists as diverse as Akon, Timbaland, Rihanna, 50 Cent and Amy Winehouse all feature in the first 1Xtra Chart.

Mark Ronson’s track “Valerie”, with featured vocalist Amy Winehouse, secures the honour of being the first Number One track of the 1Xtra Chart.

OCC Managing Director Martin Talbot said, “We are pleased to be servicing the BBC – one of our most important media partners — in compiling yet another great music chart. We hope that listeners will enjoy this fast-moving countdown of the tracks they love to hear from the 1Xtra play list”.
