National GCap Media station Classic FM is paying tribute to the work of great British cellist Jacqueline du Pré, who died 20 years ago. A special edition of the Evening Concert will be presented by Julian Lloyd Webber.
During the course of the two hour programme, Julian chooses some of du Pré’s greatest recordings, including the Elgar Cello Concerto with Sir John Barbirolli — his personal favourite. Julian also shares some of his fondest memories of the great cellist, whom he befriended before her untimely death in 1987.
Speaking about du Pré, Julian says: “Jackie was the cellist I grew up hearing in the concert hall and it was a huge privilege to get to know her. This programme features my favourite recordings of one of the greatest British musicians of all time.”
The Classic FM Evening Concert with Julian Lloyd Webber is broadcast at 9pm tomorrow (October 19). It will be available to hear again up to seven days after broadcast at classicfm.com
