Alex Stepney signs for Century

Manchester United goal keeping hero Alex Stepney is joining Century FM’s Legends team, replacing long-term host Mickey Thomas.

Alex, who made 433 appearances for the Reds in the 60s and 70s, will be joining Alan Kennedy, Graeme Sharp and Gary Owen in the line-up from January 2nd. Mickey Thomas is leaving to concentrate on his work with Manchester United.

Alex, who was part of the United team that won the European Cup in 1968, said: “I can’t wait to get on-air and have a laugh with the lads on the show. I couldn’t resist the opportunity to talk about football every night, so I’m really looking forward to the New Year.”

Sarah Carter, programme controller at Century FM, said: “We’d like to thank Mickey for his dedication to the Legends show and welcome Alex to the team. His football experience on and off the pitch over the last four decades will be a fantastic asset to the show.”
