UTV will continue to operate Wish FM as the independent local radio station for Wigan and St Helens after Ofcom received only one declaration of intent to apply for the licence.
Because the declaration of intent came from the existing licensee, a fast-track procedure was used meaning a quicker process of re-awarding the licence to current broadcaster.
Their new licence period will start on April 1st 2009.
In other news, Ofcom has received one declaration of intent for the Ullapool local commercial radio licence from the current licensee, Lochbroom FM Limited. Ofcom is therefore inviting Lochbroom FM Limited to reapply for the licence under the 'fast-track' procedure.
