Virgin DJ goes all day long

Virgin Radio's breakfast presenter Christian O'Connell performed non-stop on-air for 15 hours on Wednesday 30th April to celebrate the station's 15th birthday.

As the official birthday countdown began, the live studio show took a 'Tardis' type trip back in time to the broadcast of the launch in 1993, and at exactly 12.15pm replayed the original Richard Branson announcement of the official grand opening of Virgin Radio from Manchester, with INXS playing a live version of Steppenwolf's classic, 'Born To be Wild'.
After a birthday greeting and offer to broadcast the next Virgin Radio anniversary live from his very own private tropical hideaway, Necker Island, founder Richard Branson sent Champagne corks popping around the studio with Christian O'Connell's stamina only just beginning to waver.
Christian O'Connell was joined by fellow Virgin Radio DJs to help prop him up to get through the broadcast. Iain lee joined the DJ as he was starting the lose the plot at 4pm and rivalry and sparks started to fly as Christian goaded the new comedian DJ saying, 'You are new to Virgin Radio Iain – have you grasped the ropes yet", to which Iain replied, 'You patronising old has-been".
The DJ rolled out a special edition of the now infamous 'Who's Calling Christian' and the listeners pulled out a few crackers get the Lulu, David Tennant and Brian Blessed, Richard Briers all on the phone.
Richard Briers quipped, "Listening to Virgin Radio at the ripe old age of 74 keeps me young, talked about his role in 'Torchwood', and 'The Good Life' and how he worked with the two of the sexiest women in British Television, Felicity Kendall and Penelope Keith and how they couldn't keep their hands off of him.
Dr Who's David Tennant called to discuss rumours of his recent Cardiff based date with Kylie Minogue and admit to the happiest days of his life: doing the Tango with David Morrissey.
David Tennant said: "One day I'll bring Kylie up to Cardiff for a date in my caravan, I'm a cheap date".
Brain Blessed came on the line and raved on about Viagra and shagging Mermaids before he announced hot off the press that he was due to record a session presenting BBC1's 'Have I Got News For You'.
