Community Radio Fund opens

If you're part of a community radio group looking to get funding from Ofcom this year, now is the time to put in your application.

The purse strings of the regulator's Community Radio Fund have once again been opened for hopefuls to apply for money to cover core costs and staffing.
The deadline for the second 2008/09 round of funding is 2 December 2008, with Ofcom's panel meeting to discuss applications on 28 January 2009 and awards announced shortly afterwards. Stations must be full time community radio licensees and on-air by the date of the panel meeting.
Last year, over £460,000 was awarded to 34 stations, with the average payment to each being around £13,000. However, the odds of receiving a payout are slim: in the same period, 84 stations applied for a total of £3.17 million.
