In Legendary Labels – The Stax Records Story, the Reverend Jesse Jackson charts the beginnings of the Stax record company. The documentaries will air across parts of the Smooth and Real networks from March 1st.
All Out Productions Senior Producer Jo Meek said" “We are excited to work with Rev Jackson in his first radio documentary here in the UK. Rev Jackson is one of the artists who recorded on Stax records when the branched into spoken word recordings. In 1972 he also hosted what was dubbed the Afro-American Woodstock, held at the Los Angeles Colosium, Wattstax brought together over 100,000 people who rejoiced in music, soul and the black experience. To work with someone who has lived such a legendary life and is such an important voice for generations is a great honour and in this programme we hear his memories of the label, the artists and the historical events which shaped Stax.”
