GMG Radio launches Academy

GMG Radio is searching for the next generation of radio talent to join the ‘Futures Factory’.

The group’s newly launched skills academy takes place over 12 weeks with participants getting hands on experience with every aspect of the industry GMG Radio’s studios in Salford Quays.

Open to anyone, of any age, from any background, no formal radio experience is required to win a place in the Futures Factory. The only requirement is for people with drive, a creative mind and a commitment to making outstanding radio.

The new academy isn’t just for on-air talent, Future’s Factory is looking for aspiring journalists who can tell compelling stories, presenters with an ability to engage an audience, digital geniuses who’ll create the pictures online from what they do on-air, and those with a head for business who have sound ideas to help advertisers get ahead.

There is no charge for inclusion, GMG describe it as an open invitation to impress, win friends and get a job. Over the twelve weeks of the course, students will be involved in highly practical sessions at the Laser House studios in Salford Quays, home of Real Radio, Smooth Radio and Rock Radio.

Speaking ahead of the launch, GMG Radio North West Managing Director Andy Carter said; “fresh talent and fresh ideas go together – our sector is moving through rapidly changing times and we’re looking for driven people who get the multiplatform space we now inhabit. GMG Radio’s investment into the development of great people extends beyond our current teams to new entrants – we see that as crucial to our continued success and the evolution of our industry.”
