Theakston gives it some Heart

London’s Heart 106.2 has thrown a hero’s welcome for Breakfast host Jamie Theakston following his goal-keeping action during the 2010 Soccer Aid.

The event took place at Old Trafford to raise money for UNICEF.

Jamie was named Man of the Match after the game which saw England, captained by Robbie Williams, taking on the Rest of the World, led by Michael Sheen. Both squads featured a mixture of celebrities and World Cup legends, including Alan Shearer, Jamie Redknapp, Mike Myers, Woody Harrelson and Joe Calzaghe.

As the match went to penalties, Jamie stopped goals from the likes of Westlife’s Nicky Byrne, Gordon Ramsay and Gethin Jones. Speaking on his first Heart Breakfast since the match, Jamie said:

“This is the third time I’ve played at Soccer Aid and it never gets any less exciting. I just hope that the England team is better at taking penalties than us lot because it was a little embarrassing. I hadn’t taken a penalty since I was 12, which you might have spotted!”
