Festival Radio goes on DAB

This year's Radio Festival – taking place in Salford Quays later this month – will have its own radio station to provide extra content and feature interviews with some of the festival's guests.

Ofcom has granted a 3-day licence for the station to be broadcast to the whole of the North West region on the MXR digital radio multiplex.

Festival Radio will go live from 18 October and it'll also be available to listen to online.

Content will be generated by a team of volunteer producers and presenters overseen by the Association of Student Radio Alumni. Heading up the ASRA team is radio hotshot Kate Cocker, and heading up the Festival Radio team is Kieran Simpson, currently of student station Fly FM.

The Radio Academy's Events and Communications Officer, Heather Davies, told RadioToday.co.uk: "I'm delighted we'll have our own 'Pop Up' DAB radio station, Festival Radio. The station will be mostly speech-based, with some music, focusing on the topics raised by the main Festival, and will include some live programming."

She added: "A big thanks to Global Radio, Arqiva, MXR, the SRA and Matt Deegan – we couldn't have done it without them."

A full schedule will be available shortly on The Radio Academy [link=http://www.radioacademy.org]website[/link].
