1Xtra offers work experience

BBC 1Xtra is running an on air competition to give away a week's work experience placement with Tim Westwood.

The winner will join the show's team next month and get the chance to meet some famous stars – as well as making the coffee and picking up the Big Dawg's dry cleaning.

Westwood says: "I’m on the look out for some new blood for my show. I want to find an Intern. Only serious contenders should apply!"

The search for an intern starts with a 150-word online submission on how the candidate would be able to make Westwood's life at work easier and how they'd contribute to the show. There'll then be a shortlisting process when entries close at the end of the week.

The BBC says entries will be judged by the presenter along with producers on things like creativity, inventiveness, entertainment, talent and drive. 20 will be picked for phone interviews before the top 3 are selected as finalists by the end of next week.

There'll then be five tasks to decide on a winner, with the last two being done at the 1Xtra studios in central London on 30 November.

Task 1 – The Phone Interview: Westwood will interview the three finalists on-air. The questions to each finalist will be the same and they will receive prior notice to enable preparation on all but one question, which will demonstrate how they think on their feet.

Task 2 – The Personality Video: The finalists will be asked to prepare a video of no longer than 2 minutes demonstrating a personality trait. The trait will be announced on-air after Task 1. The videos will be posted on the 1Xtra website. The finalists will be called during the show on 25th November 2010 – Westwood will provide feedback and set the next task.

Task 3 – The Follow-up Video: The finalists will be asked to prepare a video of no more than 2 minutes, in answer to the feedback and following up on the first video.

Task 4 – The New Listener: The finalists will be asked to go onto the streets of London and find a new listener to commit to listening to 1Xtra and Westwood.

Task 5 – Talent Handling: The finalists will be tasked with looking after a star guest. Each will be set an individual task in order to impress the star.

The winner will then start their work experience placement the next day on 1 December. The BBC says it will pay for accommodation too – but not any other expenses like travel costs. Find out more [link=http://www.bbc.co.uk/1xtra/westwood/intern/]here[/link].
