BAUER: Magic 105.4 still on top

Magic 105.4 remains the number one music station in London, and becomes the first commercial radio station to beat Radio 2 for two consecutive quarters.

Kiss 100 has gone above Heart in the capital too and has also outperformed Radio 1 this quarter.

Magic’s success in London just keeps on coming. It’s the only commercial music station to have a reach of over 2 million listeners, and only Radio 4 has more listeners in the capital once again. The reach of 2.051m is up 12.6 percent years on year, with hours up 6 percent and share up three percent.

Bauer’s also got plenty to shout about when it comes to sister station Kiss which, with 1.821m weekly listeners in Q4/10, is ahead of Heart (1.766m) and Radio 1 (1.642m). It’s also the biggest station in London for reach and share among younger demographic groups. At breakfast, Rickie, Melvin and Charlie have overtaken Jamie and Harriet on Heart for the first time ever too.

Steve Parkinson, managing director, Bauer Radio London says: “I’m so delighted and proud of our programming teams who have seen such success on both Kiss and Magic. Their attention to detail in terms of the music mix, imaging and presentation has set our brands above the rest. For Foxy and for Rickie, Melvin and Charlie to all see such positive growth at breakfast is testament to their sheer hard work in delighting listeners. A truly great result for us!”

Around the rest of the country, Bauer claims to have the number one spot in 20 of the 25 markets they serve – adding places like Manchester, Liverpool, Glasgow and Aberdeen to London.

Dee Ford, group managing director, Bauer Radio says: “Commercial radio is in great shape and continuing to attract listeners away from the BBC. Over 13 million people trust Bauer Radio every week to deliver a compelling mix of music and entertainment that they are passionate about – from Southampton to Inverness and from Belfast to Hull. Special congratulations must go to Magic 105.4, which has again been crowned the number one station in London – ahead of Radio 1, Radio 2 and gaining more share over Capital and Heart. A great performance.”
