Radioplayer ready to launch

The UK Radioplayer is set to launch this week with an initial 150 radio stations included.

Founding partners Global Radio, GMG Radio, Absolute Radio, the BBC and RadioCentre will officially launch the player on Thursday morning in London.

Radio stations such as Heart, Capital, Real and Smooth will move to Radioplayer instead of providing their own online "console". The new Radioplayer allows listeners to switch between competing stations and search for songs, programmes and stations all in once place.

Independent Ofcom regulated stations can be listed for a charge, and various radio companies are providing services to help them be part of it.

Unique Interactive has just signed a deal with Manx Radio to provide all their data to be included in Radioplayer, and other companies such as G Media and Folder Media have already announced their involvement.

Extra services are expected to launch on April 5th.
