Women stage Gaydio takeover

In reaction to International Womens’ Day on Tuesday, Manchester community station Gaydio was taken over completely by female staff.

All presenters, music and even jingles were changed to ensure the station had a female bias for the day, including a show from X Factor finalist Rowetta.

Rowetta took over the drive-time show from the usual male host Nicksy, whilst breakfast co-hosts Emma and Sara took charge from 7am instead of regular presenter Chris Holliday.

Daytime programmes and phone-ins discussed women's issues including workplace equality, cervical screening and same sex parenting.

Toby Whitehouse, Station Director says “Its really important that we reflect the lives of women in our day-to-day programming. International Womens’ Day is a great opportunity to really make something of that and hear the stories and music of some inspirational women from around the world presented by Gaydio’s own inspirational women.”
