Christian radio awards open

The Christian Broadcasting Council is looking for entries for its annual awards which celebrate the best of the UK's religious programming across radio and TV.

Social media categories are added for the first time this year as part of changes to the CBC Awards.

Entries are expected from the BBC and other major players, but the awards will also celebrate things like the best production on a small budget of under £5,000 and best Christian podcast.

CBC chair Olave Snelling told us: "Change is in the air and CBC is moving with the times to celebrate the best of Christian broadcasting. These awards are a fantastic incentive to broadcasters. It’s a great encouragement to know that your achievements are highly regarded by your peers. Each year CBC receives entries from the very top of the industry, and along with these we celebrate the achievements of newcomers striving for excellence on the slimmest of budgets."

The radio categories are for Best Current Affairs Programme, Best Speech/Magazine Programme, Best Church Service and Best Live Guest Interview Programme. There's also an award for Best Podcast and production awards for Best Newcomer and Best Production (two categories – one for up to £5,000 budget, one for over £5,000).

Entries have to be in by 18th April and the awards will be presented on 19th May. Find out more [link=http://www.cbcmediaawards.org]here[/link].
