Joint show for Men’s Hour & Woman’s Hour

For the first time, BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour and BBC Radio 5 live’s Men’s Hour will air together.

They’ll both form a special programme on Monday August 27th in which the two shows will join forces to explore the secrets which people have been keeping from their partners, friends and colleagues.

The programme will be jointly presented by Woman’s Hour’s Jane Garvey and Men’s Hour host Tim Samuels and will be transmitted on both the networks at 10.00am on the Bank Holiday Monday.

Jane and Tim will hear the perspectives of men and women from around the UK – and explore the motivations and impact of keeping secrets.

Alice Feinstein, Editor of Woman’s Hour said: “This collaboration with Men’s Hour will throw light on the thorny issue of keeping secrets. By bringing the two programmes together we will get to hear from both men and women on this fascinating subject. It’s a great idea and will make for a really interesting programme.”

Jonathan Wall, Deputy Controller Radio 5 live, said: “I’m delighted the two production teams have come up with such an ambitious collaboration. Woman’s Hour sets the editorial standards we have always tried to meet in its much younger brother – Men’s Hour!”

It’s not the first time Woman’s Hour and Men’s Hour have teamed up. Recently they collaborated to bring together the male and female perspectives on the realities of post-baby sex lives, but it’s the first time the programme has been transmitted on both networks at the same time.

Woman’s Hour, Radio 4’s landmark programme, enters its 67th year this year, and puts a female perspective on the world, presented by Jenni Murray and Jane Garvey.

Its male counterpart, Men’s Hour on 5live live has just finished its third series.

The programme will be a joint production between Woman’s Hour and Tonic Productions, makers of Men’s Hour. It will be produced by John Ryan and Louise Corley.
