Real Radio Legends join internet station

Malcolm McDonald, Bernie Slaven and Micky Horsewill, the former Legends from Real Radio North-east, are joining an online radio station.

They’ll host their sports show live on Morpeth-based Koast Radio weekdays at 6pm.

The internet station launched just two years ago in the South Northumberland area and aims to produce “high quality locally produced, locally relevant programming to appeal to all corners of our community.”

The Legends were dropped from Real Radio last week as part of an “on-going strategy to provide consistent music programming which appeals to the majority of our audience” across all Real Radio stations.

Football phone-ins in Scotland and Wales were also replaced with a networked music show.

So Real Radio terminate the contracts of these 3 presenters literally hours before they were due to start one of their shows. They then refuse to pay Bernie Slaven any outstanding monies as a result of him issuing a statement which corrects some of the what can only be described as lies in the original RR press release announcing the decision. RR then also prevent Malcolm McDonald and Micky Horswill joining Koast FM to present the show on an unpaid basis for several months.
A totally despicable way to treat these presenters and the RR audience.
I urge all listeners to switch this station and it’s forthcoming Heart North East off. Hopefully, a significant loss of listeners and hence advertising revenue will send a message to the disrespectful clowns that ‘run’ this station.

A station terminates a contract for breaching it or gives notice they won’t renew it…. not both. From reports the presenters didn’t breach their contracts so they’ll have been given notice…. 1 or 3 months is normal.

The presenters are still contracted the station even if they’re not on air so they have to stick to it. If Bernie spoke out about about Real/Global in public then he breached his contract and he wont see out his contract or get the rest of his pay.

Therell be nothing stopping the other two going on another station but Real/Global won’t pay for them to work for a rival while theyre under contract…. anyone who thinks they should needs their head looking at and are proper clowns themselves!!

Hope that helps Fanny or Vikki or whatever your name is…. ;)

cant belive this show has been axed and the way they have treated the legends is a disgrace, thirteen years and rr wouldnt even let them thank the listeners for there support for one last time, says a lot for rr.well done bernie for speaking out and putting the listeners first and not the money(not like the bosses at rr)

If RR had replaced then with better content it would maybe have been understandable – but they haven’t.

Cheaper content maybe – but not better.
