Sound Women plan UK-wide social events

Sound Women, the networking and development group for women in radio, is organising a series of events across the UK.
soundwomen2013They aim to further inspire those with a passion for all things audio.

Guest speakers, including the Chair of Sound Women, Chris Burns and BBC Radio 4 broadcaster, Fi Glover, will be visiting some of the regional groups which have been set up across the country over the last year.

Sound Women regional groups have already been busy bringing together women who work in the industry, so they can share ideas and information about jobs and training. Many are finding they are also forming firm friendships along the way, and the groups are providing powerful networks for their members.

Founder of Sound Women, Maria Williams, who will also be speaking at several events, said: “You don’t have to be in London to get the benefit of being a Sound Women member. We want to celebrate, develop and support talent from all over the UK and encourage as many people as possible to be a part of this network, and part of changing our industry.”

Emma Bradshaw, Sound Women East Midlands: “It’s lovely to meet like-minded women in the East Midlands and talk about radio. Everyone has great stories to tell about working in the industry, whether they’ve been working in radio all their lives or just starting out.”

The events, which run throughout February and March, will also give details of how to become a Sound Women member – essential to the long-term sustainability of the organisation.

On Monday 18 February, Chris Burns will be in the North East, at the University of Sunderland’s Prospect Building, while on the same day, Fari Bradley, Presenter and Producer at Resonance FM, will be in Belfast.

On Friday 1 March, Broadcaster Fi Glover talks in Norwich at Heart East Anglia and on Monday 4 March, Maria Williams will be in Bristol.

Glasgow is the next location, where Sue Ahern, Training Director for Creative People and Sound Women Board Member, will be speaking on Tuesday 5 March.

Carina Tillson, from Competition Policy at Ofcom and Sound Women Board member, will be Nottingham at the Broadway Cinema also on Tuesday 5 March, and in Birmingham on Wednesday 6 March.

Maria Williams is also meeting Sound Women in the North West on Thursday 14 March in Manchester/Salford, with special guest Broadcaster and DJ Mary Anne Hobbs.

Other dates for Wales and Yorkshire are to be confirmed.
