BBC Tees hires Mark Benton as station VO

BBC Tees has signed up Teesside actor Mark Benton as the new voice of the station, on jingles, promo trails and information updates.

He’s well known on TV for programmes such as Early Doors, Waterloo Road and Murphy’s Law.

Mark took a break from playing Edna Turnblad in the UK tour of Hairspray to begin recording for the BBC Local.

Mark said: “Well I was really thrilled to be asked because obviously BBC Tees is my hometown station and it’s a great station so I’ve really enjoyed doing the jingles and I just hope that everybody out there won’t be sick of the sound of my voice because I’ve done quite a lot of them!”

Dan Thorpe, Managing Editor at BBC Tees adds: “We are really excited about Mark becoming the ‘voice of BBC Tees’. He has such a great voice, and a real love for the area that fits in with our ‘Proud of Where We Live’ strapline.”

Mark was first heard on BBC Tees Breakfast with Ali Brownlee this morning (Monday).
