Sound Women helps map out radio careers

Showing newcomers and career changers how to navigate their way into audio is the aim of Sound Women’s next event.

The networking and development group for women in the radio and audio industry is holding the evening on Friday 31 January and will include speakers from BBC 6 Music and Absolute Radio and the Guardian.

Taking place at the Roundhouse, Chalk Farm Road, London from 7pm – 9pm, the event entitled ‘Mapping the Industry – Ways into Audio Production’, will offer a panel with experience in different areas of audio production sharing advice on the best way into their profession.

The line-up will include VO Vicki Blight from Absolute Radio, Answer Me This podcaster Helen Zaltzman, Guardian’s Francesca Panetta, BBC producer Alex Dalton and journalist/producer Kellie Redmond.

There’ll be tips on how to approach the right people or stations and guidance on which roles to apply for.

Fi Glover from Sound Women, and a BBC Radio 4 presenter said: “We want to make sure everyone knows how to find their own path in the audio industry, whether they are just starting out, changing profession or returning from a career break. What sort of job should you take to get to where you want to be and how do you get that foot in the door? I hope this session will give some practical advice and tips for those wanting to work in audio production.”

This is the first in a series of Mapping the Industry events and will take the form of a speed dating evening, with small groups of attendees spending ten minutes with each speaker.
