Radio host up for Mayor’s job

Talksport presenter James Whale is being lined up to stand against Ken Livingstone in 2008's London Mayoral election.

The UK Independence Party are set to unveil their candidate in the coming months, and the late-night host is the main name in the frame.

UKIP say 55-year old Whale – who started his radio career at Metro Radio in Newcastle – would offer a fresh political voice, and be an "extremely strong" challenger to Ken.

The outspoken triple-Sony award winning presenter has said he'd recruit advisers including Jamie Oliver, Lord Archer and club owner Peter Stringfellow if elected as Mayor.

UKIP won two seats on the London Assembly in the elections in 2004.
