Laser win first licence

Laser Broadcasting have won their first analogue radio licence from Ofcom, with their application for Herefordshire and Monmouthshire. The group already have two nearby stations – Classic Hits Hereford and Worcester and Sunshine 855 (Ludlow and South Shropshire).

Laser say Hereford and Monmouthshire Classic Hits will share some functions – including news and sales – with Classic Hits Hereford and Worcester. Their application to Ofcom promised a broad appeal to all local people, but mainly the 35+ age group, with an average of 30% speech content. The music will be a distinctive mix of familiar, melodic hits and album tracks from the past five decades with selected current songs which complement the overall music theme. Specialist music programming may also be aired in non-daytime hours.

Laser Broadcasting is also a shareholder in Yorkshire's Fresh Radio and production company NYPD.
