Myers: Ofcom lacks vision

The radio industry has a lack of confidence in regulator Ofcom, according to former GMG Executive John Myers.

Speaking at the Radio Festival this afternoon, John was presenting the findings of his six-week Local Radio Review he produced for the Government.
Ofcom should move from complaint driven regulation, John says. All of Ofcom's fines or Yellow Cards have been issued because of complaints alone. Ofcom needs to change along with the radio industry and be ready for a new way of working.
"Ofcom has about as much vision as Stevie Wonder," he says.
Speaking of the review, John says he learned a lot during the project, especially the pressures on small scale independent stations, but the trust between the stations and the regulator is very low.
