Bacon plays it for laughs

BBC Radio 5 Live's Richard Bacon will be testing his mettle as a stand-up comedian during the Edinburgh Festival. It will be the first time he has attempted live comedy.

On 26 August he will be joined live on his programme by a range of top comedians including Richard Herring, Barry Cryer and Stephen K Amos. They will mentor him by offering top tips on how to survive a live comedy festival audience.
Radio 5 Live listeners will be able to take part by suggesting jokes and material.
The following night, Bacon will be introduced on stage at the Udderbelly in Edinburgh by Reginald D Hunter, with his ten-minute stand-up routine broadcast live within his show.
Richard Bacon said: "This is my ninth year at the Edinburgh Festival as a regular festival-goer. I love the event and it's about time I found out once and for all if I am indeed funny."
