Absolute Radio wins the Gold

Absolute Radio were the big winners at the NDL Radio Academy Promotions and Marketing Awards last night with three awards, including Gold.
The team at Golden Square picked up Best Use of Online for Marketing a Station and Best National On-air Promotion in addition to the top prize.

The judges commended the national commercial rock station, which celebrated its first birthday last month, for its work across the board including its online social media campaign – ‘Rock Off’, its reverse programming promotion of the movie "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button'' and its iPhone app- the iAmp.
Bauer was awarded two gongs for best local/regional on-air promotion and best local/regional marketing campaign, the BBC won three, whilst GMG, UTV and Global all took home one award each.
Trevor Dann, Chief Executive of The Radio Academy said: “Absolute’s entries were a testament to the innovative work being done at 1 Golden Square. But our judges were impressed by the overall high standard of creativity and execution in this year’s entries, which were the best for some years.
"Stations from across the BBC and Commercial Radio demonstrated deep understanding of the power of marketing and showed new creative ways of connecting with their audiences – on many platforms from AM to FM, and from DAB through to social media”.
Andrew Harrison, Chief Executive of RadioCentre, the industry body for Commercial Radio commented: “Absolute Radio’s investment and hard work in the station is coming to fruition.
"They have delivered stand-out, adventurous creative solutions for advertisers, quality programming for listeners and have an innovative approach to cross-platform promotion in the digital world. They are innovative, creative and original – tonight’s gold award was thoroughly well deserved.”
