Ofcom investigates 209radio

The radio regulator has recorded a Breach against the broadcasting licence of community station 209radio.

The Cambridge station effectively closed down in February, but failed to surrender its licence, instead continuing to broadcast the 'birdsong'.

Ofcom is now considering the most appropriate next steps, including possible revocation of the licence. Since revocation requires a statutory sanction, Ofcom has formally notified the Licensee that they are considering these licence contraventions for statutory sanction in light of their seriousness and ongoing nature.

A visit to 209radio's website redirects to Cambridge 105 "a new Community Radio Project for the city of Cambridge". It says the station will be on FM subject to their pending licence application.
