Beacon Radio becomes one

Orion Media is the latest company to take advantage of the Digital Economy Act by merging two local stations into one.

Beacon Radio West Midlands and Beacon Shropshire will, from Monday, share the same schedule 24 hours a day.

It puts an end to decades of seperate services offered by Beacon Radio, which until now, had over 12 hours a day of local programmes.

Fresh and Jo from Beacon WM's breakfast will now be heard in Shropshire, along with James Carpenter's drivetime show. Beacon Shropshire's Breakfast presenter Mark Somers will move to a new networked afternoon show between Beacon and Wyvern from 1-4, whilst mid-morning host Tom Newitt also extends to Beacon West Midlands.

The move also means Beacon and Wyvern will share all programmes with the exception of breakfast and drive.

Orion Media also owns BRMB and Mercia, but these stations are unaffected by the changes.

And whilst all this information is available on the relevant station schedule webpages, Radio Today is still awaiting official confirmation of all changes and a comment from Orion Media.
