Three apply for Bath FM licence

Ofcom has received three applications for the FM local radio licence for Bath – but current station Total Star isn’t among the applicants.

Existing services Nova Radio and The Breeze are in the running for the licence as well as a group called Radio Bath Ltd.

Triple West Radio Invest Ltd already run the Weston-super-Mare FM licence as Nova Radio, while Celador are behind The Breeze, which launched last month in Bristol and already exists as a brand in the Portsmouth and Southampton areas.

107.9 Radio Bath are proposing 'A full service, local radio station for Bath. Music based, with local news and information. Playing classic hits and contemporary music appealing to a broad audience, and with specialist music and student-oriented output appealing to a younger audience.'

Nova would offer 'A locally oriented station for people aged 25 to 54 in the city of Bath area featuring a broad-based variety of music with Bath local news and information on city events and culture.'

While The Breeze calls itself 'An easy listening music-based service with local news and information for Bath and the surrounding area.'

Ofcom is seeking the views of the public about the local needs of listeners in this area and the type of service required.
