BBC Radio 2 overnights go to indies

Independent production companies Wise Buddah and Somethin’ Else have been selected to produce the two weekday overnight shows on Radio 2.

Somethin’ Else will make Janice Long’s midnight to 2am programme, while Wise Buddah will take over the production of Alex Lester’s 2am-5am show.

This follows the news we brought you yesterday that Saturday breakfast show Sounds of the 60s with Brian Matthew is to be produced by Unique.

The three shows were put out to tender back in March, as part of one of the most mainstream rounds of commissioning for the UK’s largest radio station for many years. We’re told there was a very competitive round of pitching meetings over the last couple of months.

Bob Shennan, Controller, Radio 2 and 6 Music, told RadioToday.co.uk: “These commissions confirm our commitment to supporting Independent production in the UK and the hugely important part they play in the network’s success.”
