Mercia breakfast presenter JD went back to his childhood days recently to look after classes at a local school.
The visit was part of his ‘Things to do before 30’ challenge.
He’s been in a boyband, thrown a TV from a roof, swam with sharks and to go into primary schools to teach a few lessons gave him a completely different challenge. Whilst at school he took maths and literacy lessons, introduced the children to radio, interviewed some of them, met the class pets and enjoyed the school dinners.
JD’s teaching abilities prompted a number of the pupils to write to him afterwards to say thank you with comments including “I wish you could come again” and asking “why did you try to cheat at multiplication bingo by using a calculator?”
JD said “I’m used to speaking to thousands of people every day from a studio, or at events. But the pressure of entertaining a class of eager and attentive kids was new to me, I think I did ok and that they weren’t too bored, and hopefully I might have found some listeners of the future!”
