Bauer Media’s Teesside station TFM Radio has gone multiplatform to cover one of the biggest news stories in the patch so far this year.
The station streamed live video pictures on its website of the first slab of metal to roll off the production line at the newly reopened steelworks in Redcar.
Commentary on the event was done by TFM journalist Sarah Colley who also filed reports for air.
The Teesside plant was closed in 2010, a massive story for the region with the loss of hundreds of local jobs. Now reopened by Thai firm SSI, the steelworks has become big news again with new employment opportunities for people in the area.
Justin Kings, Bauer North East and Cumbria’s Head of News said: “The TFM Radio News Team strives to bring listeners the best coverage of the stories that matter to our listeners. There’s no doubt that the re-starting of steel production on Teesside will directly affect thousands of people who tune into TFM Radio, so we’ve been proud to spend a lot of time at the blast furnace over the past week or so. I’m particularly happy that we have been able to give our listeners the chance to see the first steel slab come off the production line, live, thanks to streaming video on-line.”
Other stations in the patch also covered the topic with special reports and outside broadcasts today, including Real Radio North East and BBC Tees.
